The Bohemian Grove circa 1900

The Bohemian Grove comprises approximately 2,600 acres of land in Sonoma County, including forest and brushlands. It is primarily a Douglas fir, second-growth forest. 163 acres of old growth trees are protected in perpetuity under a conservation easement. Only 2,300 acres are included under the application for a Non-industrial Timber Management Plan. The property is regularly inspected by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection along with other state and federal agencies.

The Bohemian Club was founded in 1872 by a group of writers, musicians and performers seeking to encourage cultural activities in San Francisco. The Bohemian Grove, a former logging site, was acquired by the Bohemian Club more than 100 years ago and is in the process of being restored to its natural state.
